Sam's free throws to sink MCL
Every year, more than 80,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with lymphoma - that means every seven minutes, someone receives a lymphoma diagnosis. There are more than 30 distinct types of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Lymphoma is very sad and hits close to home for me and my family because my grandfather died from Mantle Cell Lymphoma - one of the rarest and most challenging forms of Lymphoma to treat - when I was only 2 years old. Even though I was very young when he died and he hasn't been with us for just over 10 years, he still holds an extremely special place in my heart.
Every year we light a candle around the time of his death in order to remember him though we think of him every day. And for my Bar Mitzvah service on June 17th, which will be Father's Day Weekend, I will be wearing the tallis that he wore on important family and religious occasions. Though my family will celebrate this landmark event in my life with great joy, we wish he could be with us on this special day. We know he would have been so proud.
His nine-year battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma was incrediby difficult for my entire family but his time with us would have been much shorter without the work and breakthrough treatments from organizations like the Lymphoma Research Foundation. My goal is to limit losses like ours around the world. I want to help other families by raising money to help fight this terrible disease.
For my Bar Mitzvah Project, I'm holding a basketball free throw contest to raise money in support of the Lymphoma Research Foundation, and particularly the work they are doing in researching a cure for Mantle Cell Lymphoma.
Please join us for this contest as follows:
- Date: May 21st starting from 3:00pm.- 5:00 pm (PLEASE NOTE REVISED DATE and TIME)
- We will start promptly at 3pm.
- Location: Basketball Courts at Bedford Hills Memorial Park. Haines Road, Bedford Hills
We will be having fun for a great cause! There will be prizes for the winners!
If you want to donate, you can participate in the free throw contest for $15, donate online, or both. Please take a moment to RSVP to email@example.com that you will attend so we can plan accordingly. Walk-ups welcome on the day as space allows.
Thank you to everybody who donates, because your donation might save someone's life and enable more families to enjoy celebrations such as my Bar Mitzvah together.
With your support, someday, we can say together that every seven minutes someone is cured of this blood cancer.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity and I hope to see you on May 21st!
